Team in Training

I want to do this...but I don't want to do it by myself....and I don't foresee myself raising $1500 to participate in it, either. They say that your travel and lodging to the event is free, however I suspect they've already calculated that into the amount of money you need to raise.

Eh. Oh well. Another dream dashed.

I did this a few years ago with the American Stroke Assn. (part of American Heart Assn.). I washed out halfway through because I couldn't raise the $2500 to go to Jamaica. The fund raising was actually harder than the training.

After I dropped out of the ASA training I still went to training with a local runner's club. However, Getting up at 4:30 every Saturday morning got to be old after a while. The longer your training gets, the earlier you have to get up. It was brutal. I applaud anyone who can get through a half or full marathon walking or running. Give it a try - would Scott do it with you? You don't have kids yet, so that makes it easier to get up and go back home and nap later. Also, they usually have pretty good trainers. If you just want to do a marathon, you can find a local runner's club and you don't have to raise any money. Good luck!

If you do the Team In Training together, you will have to raise $1500 each, you know... Strangely, when I was raising money, past employers that respected me and that I left on good terms gave not one penny, but my kids' dentist gave $100. Go figure.

A friend of mine just did the Team in Training, and she had a great time. I was also going to recommend Train to End Stroke (with the American Stroke Association). I've been entertaining doing that for a while. It's a marathon/half-marathon, though, not a triathalon, but you can run it in Hawaii! And you have a a pretty long time to raise the money.
